How Ubuntu psychological services can help

If you were not recommended for hire based on the results of a department-conducted psychological evaluation, you have the right to obtain an independent second opinion—a critical opportunity to present a comprehensive and impartial reassessment before a final hiring decision is made.

Ubuntu Psychological Services provides expert second-opinion pre-employment evaluations for law enforcement candidates seeking reconsideration following an initial disqualification. Our evaluations are conducted in accordance with POST guidelines and follow the highest standards of fairness, objectivity, and clinical accuracy.

We are committed to ensuring that qualified candidates receive a thorough and unbiased psychological evaluation. Our clinicians understand the unique demands of public safety work and are trained in law enforcement psychological assessment protocols.

What to expect from the second-opinion evaluation

Our independent psychological evaluations follow the procedures outlined by POST and your hiring agency. The process typically includes the following steps:

  • Notification of Retention - Inform the law enforcement agency that you are seeking an independent psychological evaluation through Ubuntu Psychological Services. Provide our contact information to your background investigator or hiring coordinator.
  • Record Transfer - The agency will send us the relevant documents, which may include:
    1. A summary of your background investigation
    2. Your original psychological evaluation report
    3. Any relevant law enforcement questionnaires or forms
  • Clinical Interview & Testing - Once we receive and review the records, we will schedule your appointment.
    The evaluation consists of:
    1. A structured clinical interview conducted by a licensed psychologist
    2. Administration of one or more standardized psychological tests used in law enforcement screening (e.g., MMPI-2-RF, PAI, CPI, etc.)
    3. Discussion of your background, life history, and relevant psychological factors
  • Objective Review & Reporting - After the assessment, our psychologist will:
    1. Analyze the test results and interview findings
    2. Assess suitability based on POST’s 10 psychological dimensions (e.g., social competence, emotional regulation, impulse control, decision-making, adaptability)
    3. Prepare a detailed and professional report summarizing our findings
  • Submission of Results - The final report will be sent directly to the requesting law enforcement agency or background investigator, in accordance with their protocol.
