We embody the African way of life by fostering mutual care, justice, connection, empathy, and community through culturally competent support grounded in human kindness.

Ubuntu is a southern African term in which the shared meaning is described as “connectedness that exists” or “should exist between people.”

Answers to popular questions

My insurance isn’t listed on your website. Can I still see a provider?

The list of accepted insurances on our website is not exhaustive. We encourage you to call Ubuntu directly to confirm whether your insurance is accepted. If your insurance is not currently accepted, you still have the option to see one of our providers by paying out-of-pocket.

What if I’ve had a bad experience with therapy before?

We hear this often. Finding the right therapist is a deeply personal process—and we’ll work with you to find a clinician who feels like a fit. Our team is trained in cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and creating safe, affirming environments.

How long does therapy last?

There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline. Some clients come for a few months, others for years. We’ll work with you to determine a pace and duration that supports your goals.

Can I Contact My Therapist After Hours?

You are welcome to reach out to your therapist outside of business hours. However, please be aware that responses may be delayed. Ubuntu is committed to honoring both your time and your therapist’s, so messages will be returned during business hours as soon as possible.

How long is each session?

Most sessions last between 55 to 60 minutes. If you would prefer extended session time, additional options are available upon request.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, therapy is confidential. However, there are specific legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality, such as situations involving harm to self or others, or court-mandated disclosures. These limitations will be discussed in detail at the beginning of therapy to ensure your understanding and comfort.

What can I expect during the first session?

The first session is a comprehensive intake appointment. During this time, we will explore the concerns that brought you to therapy, review your personal and psychological history, and begin identifying goals for treatment. This session helps us better understand your needs and determine how we can best support you moving forward.
